Infrastructure Canada – Building Canada Plan
Building Canada is focused on delivering results that matter to Canadians—cleaner air and water, safer roads, shorter commutes, and prosperous, livable communities. This seven year plan, from 2007 to 2014, will make a real difference in the everyday lives of Canadians, while supporting the nation's priorities—a stronger economy, cleaner environment and better communities. The Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia signed the Canada-British Columbia Framework Agreement on November 6, 2007. Between 2007 and 2014, just over $2.724 billion will be provided for infrastructure improvements in British Columbia under the Building Canada Plan.

Building Canada – Gas Tax Fund
Just over $1.485 billion in gas tax funding (2007-2014) has begun flowing, and will flow, to British Columbia municipalities with the extension of the Gas Tax Agreement from 2010 to 2014. Note that the amounts given below are the total Gas Tax funding that will flow between 2008 and 2010. The municipalities of Barriere and Clearwater are also set to receive funding from this program starting in 2010.

Building Canada – Infrastructure Stimulus Fund
In 2009, the Government of Canada introduced the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund as part of its Economic Action Plan to get shovels in the ground and projects completed by March 31st, 2011. The fund’s success is a result of partnerships developed between the federal, provincial and municipal levels of government, who are working together to fund projects and get the work underway.

Natural Resources Canada
Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) seeks to enhance the responsible development and use of Canada’s natural resources and the competitiveness of Canada’s natural resources products. It is an established leader in science and technology in the fields of energy, forests, and minerals and metals and uses its expertise in earth sciences to build and maintain an up-to-date knowledge base of our landmass.

Western Economic Diversification Canada
Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) was established in 1987 to help broaden the economic base of the four western provinces – British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Under the Western Economic Diversification Act, 1988, the department is mandated to “promote the development and diversification of the economy of Western Canada and to advance the interests of Western Canada in national economic policy, program and project development and implementation.”

Western Economic Diversification - Community Adjustment Fund (CAF)
The Community Adjustment Fund (CAF) will provide $1 billion over two years to address the short-term economic needs of Canadian communities impacted by the global recession. The national fund will provide an economic stimulus by supporting projects that create jobs and maintain employment in and around communities that have experienced significant job losses and lack alternative employment opportunities.

The Community Economic Diversification Initiative (CEDI) is a key component of the federal Mountain Pine Beetle Program. It is a two-year federal contribution program aimed at helping to diversify the economic foundation and contribute to their long-term stability of forest-dependent communities and First Nations.

The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program is an infrastructure fund that will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. This national initiative will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
